Remuera House

Remuera House

Sited within an established leafy suburb this residence draws inspiration from its surroundings, referencing the vernacular arts and crafts roof of its neighbours. The building’s roof has been balanced overhead, creating an opportunity to bring openness to the living spaces below while retaining the solidity and weight of a more traditional form above. Apertures have been added to the roof that allow relief to its form, while providing outlook and privacy for the bedrooms.

Through the arrangement of spaces and layering of the landscapes, a private courtyard has been developed to the northeast which living spaces flow onto. The buildings language is comprised from rich materials with an emphasis on weathering, that overtime will mature to be of its environment.
