San Francisco Bay House

This house embraces the steep contour overlooking San Francisco Bay with oiled timber, glass and broad overhanging roof planes. Two slate-clad roof planes are set apart, responding to the curving contour of the site and providing points of outlook for the sleeping and living areas. The entry and stairwell serve as a hinge point of this composition. A courtyard is created between the upper edge of the site and the interior spaces, inviting morning sun and connecting to spaces amongst the tree canopies perched above San Francisco Bay.

Project Details: Completed construction in early 2015. Fearon Hay’s project team was led by Stephen de Vrij with Michael Huh & Chris Wood. Tim Hay and Jeff Fearon are the design architects. Photography is by Richard Powers.
